Learning Profile (M)

Most of people think that brain is the part of our body what we learn with, however, more specific answer would be other parts of the body supply the raw information what brain needs. Brain can't learn all by itself. The eyes, ears, hands, and feet are also learning organs; these are exquisitely adapted sensor which brings brain sensation in order to make brain right decisions. All of our body components are important contributors. In other hand, we're not using our same part of bodies' learning contributors. We are not all the same kind of learners. Our body parts favor one of those pairs of learning organs. For example, some people could learn with left hand rather than right hand, left ear rather than right ear. Also when the sensation from the body part that we prefer to use, only one brain hemisphere are active than the other. Prefer using one side of our body part is called lateral dominance.

During our humanities class, we had chosen to be tested in our learning organs. Through varieties of exercises to determine our dominant body parts in order to find learning profile. After testing our learning organs, we were being able to find out what kind of thinker, logic or gestalt.  Logical thinker is a learner who uses left side of learning organs, and gestalt thinker uses right side of learning organs. In my circumstances, all of my learning organs were focused in left side, when my right hemisphere of brain is dominant. According to my accurate test results, my learning profile was profile M. After that, we got a separate sheet of paper that we can investigate interesting facts about our profiles. In my opinion, understanding characteristics that is shown in a separated sheet of paper which represent my learning profile, could help me to know my strengths preferences and areas that need to improve.

Consequently, as a profile a learner, I learn best through movement and focusing on the whole picture, context and emotional relevance to self. This is very accurate result that I could believe, because I could feel physically and emotionally expressive. Also an emotion that is relevant to me who could focus on the whole picture, and context. Emotion that is formed by movements could help me improve on discrimination making right decisions. For example, math problems that is very natural for Koreans, they automatically solve hundreds of same problems in order to not forget other problems with same methods. They are 'Learning kinesthetically', needing to move (especially the hands) to process new learning. Same to me, I learn best when I'm 'Learning kinesthetically' expressing my physical and emotional skills preparing for my new learning.

Being a kinesthetically learner, I need to be able to see, hear, move and/or verbalize the whole context before learning the details. These are the sensors from my learning organs, which could shows that I need to be physically improved. I think I'm being very kinesthetic, I can't verbalize the whole context, I should be improve to learn more details, rather than just realizing the whole picture of context. The separate paper also shows me that I may have difficulties with penmanship. Benefits from fine-motor, hand-eye coordination play and work. Being physically improved, I need to get along with my penmanship. Penmanship could bring me improvements of hand and eye coordination. I could learn more enthusiastically when my eyes and hands cooperate very well.

The strategies that would help me in my learning is that I often highly intuitive and prefers to process that way. In humanities class, we are learning about literary terms which were hided in the play called 'Julius Caesar'. I prefer to process appreciating metaphors, examples and associations when analyzing Julius Caesar, improving my learning skills. Listening and interpreting for the intention and emotion of the person or information that is provided from Julius Caesar is also a strategy that would help me in my learning skills. Most importantly, the strategies that deteriorate stress could develop my learning. Movements tend to be spontaneous and fluid freely, and when capacity exhibits good techniques (like a specific dance step) may deteriorate under stress. Without stress, my learning circumstances would be perfect for me to improve.

Things that I would like my teachers to know this about me is I have possible difficulties with reading or writing languages that move from left to right like English (According to separate sheet of paper Profile M). This is happening because my left eye scans from right to left, which makes English a lot harder than other people. This may reverse or transpose letters and numbers. Difficulties following step-by-steps instructions tend to start by imagining the end results and then intuitively doing what seems appropriate. This is really taking risks, because same learner as me would be hard to follow instructions when they think that doesn't work it out.

As a conclusion, our humanities class is spending one whole period to figuring out what sort of learner that we are. How the results seems accurate, and writing this self-evaluation in order to know our selves and put efforts in order to improve from those weaknesses that we have. The profile helps me where can I get improvements, and how I expressive in some parts, and how am I different from other learners. This learning profile is very expedient method to gain suggestions to focus on our sensation being great learner.
